When doing a translation to another language do not translate this section.
During the installation of Bodhi Linux, using the Live CD or USB stick, the initial window is for choosing the preferred language. This choice refers only to the language that will be used by the installation program, therefore it will not have any influence on the language of Bodhi, once installed
This wiki contains the instructions needed to convert the menus and most of the programs of Bodhi Linux to the Portuguese language.
You will need an Internet access already enabled. If you have not set up your connection, you can refer to “Internet Connection” from the “Quick Start Guide” of Bodhi, located at: Main Menu → Bodhi Linux → Quick Start. In the Wiki version of the “Quick Start Guide” alternative language versions are available.
The set up of Bodhi Linux for a different language consists of 3 parts:
I - Downloading and installation of the required language packages.
II - Activation of Bodhi Linux for that language
III - Set up language support for other software
This is the most simple and direct method.
1 - Visit the Bodhi Linux AppCenter
2 - In the Section “Extra” select “Language Packs”
3 - Select “Language Pack XX” and click on the “Install Now” button
Synaptic is the standard application in Bodhi Linux to install software.
1 - Main Menu → Settings → All → System → Synaptic Package Manager
2 - Enter your password.
3 - Click Reload from the commands located at the top.
This command is intended to synchronize the information contained in the “on line” Bodhi repositories , with that found in Synaptic.
4 - Type language-support-xx in the Quick search field to find a list of packages for the -XX- language.
5 - Select and mark for installation the following packages:
6 - Click the square to the left of the package name and then click on Mark for Installation.
7 - Click Apply, from the series of commands located at the top.
8 - A new window appears, indicating which packages will be installed. Click Apply to start installation.
(This includes packages automatically detected by “Synaptic”, without which your originally selected packages may not work because they are mutually dependent.)
The selected packages will now be downloaded and installed automatically by “Synaptic”.
9 - At the end of the installation a new window appears confirming the completion and results of the installation. You can close this and all other Synaptic windows.
1 - Main Menu → Modules-Settings
2 - Select the Language tab (at the top of the window) and click Language
- Click Load and then Close
- Load the keyboard module
1 - Main Menu → Modules-Settings

4 - Select ”-XX-”, in the 1st column, the country of your choice in the 2nd column, and “UTF-8” in the 3rd column - Click Apply and then Close
5 - The previous settings window should still be open. Select Input Method Settings
6 - Select ibus - Click “Setup Selected”, next Apply and then Close
To immediately activate the new language, simply restart your “desktop” (it is not necessary to restart the system (reboot)).
Main Menu → Enlightenment → Restart Enlightenment
Congratulations! As you can see, you can now enjoy Bodhi Linux in your preferred language.
Whenever you want to switch languages, simply follow the steps outlined in 2. being only necessary to pre-install the packages containing each of the languages you want to use.
There are many other software programs that offer home support for multiple languages, including -XX-. It is outside the scope of this guide to provide support for this here, however the Bodhi Linux Forums are an excellent starting point for help setting up software for a particular language.
